AVAVU.AU

I'm sorry Web Surfer.

There's something I should tell you. I've been signing you up to whatever scam links I can find. What's more, I've been selling your data. My readership is quite small so I've only made $0.04, which hasn't been enough to cover server fees. Still, it's been worth it to understand how Jeff Bezos feels every day.

I don't think people realise the power of a big list of emails. Sometimes when I'm feeling down I'll just load up the database and stare at all the emails.

OULD

When I was a kid, I could never spell the second half of 'could', 'should', or 'would' with any reliability, so I came up with the mnemonic, Oh You Lucky Duck. But today, it is you who is the lucky duck. You are getting this month's newsletter one whole day early, because I am leaving for Vietnam tomorrow for a holiday. Don't fret, I'll be back before long. I've been tossing up bringing my laptop, and I've decided not to live the digital nomad life. It's probably important for me to not be working on something for a few weeks. This does mean if something breaks there is no fixing it. There should be enough Suburbles to last until I'm back.

Trams

Have you ever wondered which two tram stops are closest together? Read this month's essay to find out. It's a bit more of a nerdy technical thing than the usual stuff I write about.

COOL THINGS

  • Articles of Interest: Gear

How has the military and the outdoors influenced each other, and the way we dress today? I love Articles of Interest, mostly for host Avery Truffleman's voice. I've linked episode three here because the first two didn't quite grab me in the way the rest of the series did. I especially loved the episodes on camo and Gorpcore.

CROSSWORDS

  • November 22 For Saturday Quiz Time

This puzzle kicked my ass. It really shouldn't have been so hard, but I picked a theme that I will not reveal which put a lot of restraints on what I could do.

  • November 29 For Saturday Quiz Time

I loved making this one so much. My "seed entry", ie. the first entry I filled, was an Australian indie rocker. Can you guess which from the clue: "Indie rocker who sings: "My throat feels like a funnel filled with Weetbix and kerosene"" I then accidently included another indie rocker. Lol

MUSIC

  • Katy Kirby – Cool Dry Place

I saw Katy Kirby opend for Folk Bitch Trio a few weeks ago. She was great. If I could bottle her speaking voice and sell it I would. Her music's very good as well.

  • A.G. Cook – 7G

Recently I disable Spotify autoplay after after an album finishes. I'd recommend it. It's made me much attentive to my music, and as a result I've been listening to full albums. A.G. Cook's 7G, is an album that greatly benefits from being listened to in order. With 7 discs comprising of 49 songs, totalling to 2 hours and 49 minutes, listening to it's entirety is an undertaking. But each disc has a different theme, and lsitening to each transports you into differnet musical worlds.
